Debbie is a Florence Nightingale Foundation Chair in Clinical Nursing and Midwifery at University of Birmingham and University Hospitals Birmingham. She is a Guest Professor for HUST University, Wuhan, China. Her research interests include maternal health, particularly birth trauma and perinatal mental health and organisation development of clinical academic roles. Debbie has research expertise in mixed methodologies including the development and execution of randomised controlled trials and creative qualitative methods including poetic narrative story telling.
She is a chairing panel member of the NIHR ICA Doctorate Fellowship Awards, the NIHR Nursing and Midwifery Incubator Group and the NIHR Implementing Clinical Academic Roles Group. She is a member of the editorial board on the British Journal of Midwifery and the Journal of International Practice. She has a strong profile for the attainment of NIHR funding and a growing number of high-quality publications. She previously developed the first Masters’ Programme in Clinical Research and Leadership. She is the founder of the UK Nursing, Midwifery and AHP (NMAHP) Clinical Academic Roles Group and chairs the AUKUH National NMAHP Clinical Academic Role Implementation Network.
